Granite is a common type of felsic intrusive igneous rock that is granular and phaneritic in texture. Granites can be predominantly white, pink, or gray in color, depending on their mineralogy. The word “granite” comes from the Latin granum, a grain, in reference to the coarse-grained structure of such a holocrystalline rock. Strictly speaking, granite is an igneous rock with between 20% and 60% quartz by volume, and at least 35% of the total feldspar consisting of alkali feldspar, although commonly the term “granite” is used to refer to a wider range of coarse-grained igneous rocks containing quartz and feldspar.

Quartz The Popularity of Quartz Countertops. If you’re looking for a sturdy countertop option for your Indianapolis home, quartz is a good choice. In fact, home-improvement network HGTV calls it the new countertop contender because of its ease-of-care, durability, and color options. This popular new countertop is a great alternative to both granite and marble.

HanStone® Quartz HanStone® Quartz is an innovative new product that combines natural quartz, one of nature’s hardest materials, to produce a durable yet luxurious stone surface. We source various types, sizes, and colors of quartz crystals from around the world, which provide the desired hue and capture the spirit and essence of natural colors. Unlike granite and many other surfaces, HanStone Quartz is non-porous and requires no sealing. In addition to being even more durable than granite, HanStone Quartz is also stain-resistant, heat-resistant, and easy to maintain. It has also been tested and certified by the National Sanitation for Food Safety and Food Contact under the NSF51 Certification.

Silestone Silestone has become the perfect option for kitchen and bathroom countertops over and above other traditional materials such as granite or natural stone.
Amongst the features responsible for this popularity are that Silestone quartz countertops present extreme durability in kitchen and bathroom spaces where traffic and daily use is high, and also the endless colors possibilities that are offered with this surface

Material options for Countertops

Marble is ideal for bathrooms, formal floor applications, wall, fireplace surrounds, and vanity tops. Ease of care, beauty, and elegance make it a top choice for homeowners. Mont also now features Azerocare Marble, a viable option that facilitates the confident use of marble in the kitchen. Azerocare Marble has a special treatment that, when applied to the polished surface of marble, guarantees the following:

Travertine is a type of limestone that is very popular for interior and exterior wall cladding as well as flooring applications. Travertine is more porous than marble, which makes marble less likely to stain.

Onyx can create an aesthetically intriguing look for several areas of your home or business such as wall or bar areas.  Onyx is a rare stone that is being used more frequently on bar tops, kitchen panels, accent walls, and bathrooms.  In the kitchen, onyx is being used more as an accent such as backsplash, panels, and kitchen island side panels.  Onyx is perfect for entertaining, such as bar tops and bar side panels.

Sandstone countertops are some of the most beautiful countertops available to homeowners. They are a stunning addition to any kitchen or bathroom because of their rich texture, grain and colors. And while they do require a little more maintenance and diligence than other stone countertops, their aesthetic value is tough to beat.

Soapstone is the perfect material for homeowners who want something just a little different. Soapstone is a popular granite or marble alternative with a unique “soapy” texture. This material has been used for hearths and tabletop applications. A common use for soapstone is kitchen countertops because of its proven strength which can stand the test of time while maintaining its integrity. It is also used widely in bathrooms as bathroom vanities. Soapstone will give your kitchen floor a distinct and stylish look. It’s benefits are safety and texture. Soapstone is also nonporous so it won’t stain or react to chemicals in cleaning products.

Quartzite is versatile and has a great look for entryways, patios, bathroom vanities, shower surrounds, kitchen countertops, kitchen islands, fireplace surrounds and wall cladding. Quartzite has the look of marble but is much easier to maintain because it is water-resistant, non-skid and very easy to clean. Quartzite is strong and is one of the most durable stones available. It resists cold and heat and does not crack when exposed to extreme temperatures. Quartzite can be used in high traffic areas. It is resistant to UV rays, which is ideal for indoor and outdoor kitchens. Quartzite is elegant, versatile and strong.
